Oaxaca has become the emerging point and generator of contemporary art that all artists and curators are keeping an eye on. Oaxaca is going through an exciting new period thanks to a new generation of artists who revitalize the environment in the field of plastic arts and other cultural products. OAXACAN CONTEMPORARY CREATORS: MONTES, JIMÉNEZ AND GUISU Special event: #OpenHouse on Saturday, October 30 and Tuesday, November 2, from 10:00AM to 6:00PM. This work of art by Carlos Guzmán includes chocolate, mole, salt, slacked lime, flowers, mezcal, and pieces carefully crafted by Oaxacan hands in an attempt to show their work to the world with an avant-garde -yet timeless- altar rendering for the Day of the Dead. Altars are often decorated, among other things, with cempasúchil (marigold) flowers, bread, seasonal fruit, mole dishes, mezcal, or any other kind of beverage our lost loved one used to enjoy in life. It is made up of several different levels, each carefully placed as ofrendas, or offerings to welcome back the souls of our loved ones who have passed away. This year's piece finds its inspiration in the traditional Day of the Dead altars in Oaxaca. At its discretion, the MCI may take your temperature upon arrival, or ask for proof of vaccination.
